The fall race at ‘Dega is always a circus, and this Sunday is shaping up to be no different. Picture non-playoff drivers throwing caution to the wind, chasing glory like there’s no tomorrow. Chaos? Just last week, we saw Ross Chastain snatch victory at Kansas in what can only be described as a bizarre day for most of the playoff contenders. Now, the stakes are even higher. We’ve whittled it down to 12 drivers still clawing for a shot at the NASCAR Cup, and their journey continues this Sunday with the YellaWood 500 at the one and only Talladega Superspeedway. The green flag drops at 2 p.m. ET—so mark your calendars, people—because after this, just one more race separates these guys from the final eight.
Now, let’s talk odds! According to the latest NASCAR betting lines, we’ve got Ryan Blaney, Brad Keselowski, Kyle Busch, and Joey Logano sitting pretty as co-favorites at 12-1.
Ross Chastain, fresh off his Kansas win, and William Byron are right on their heels at 14-1.
NASCAR Handicapping
NASCAR heads to Alabama this weekend for the 31st race of the season, with Talladega hosting the YellaWood 500 for the second race of the round of 12 in the playoffs. The first saw Ross Chastain emerge victorious at Kansas Speedway.
Now he heads to Talladega Superspeedway where he has one win and two top-10 finishes in his last seven races.
NASCAR 2024 YellaWood 500 Race Odds: Ryan Blaney +950
It’s been an up and down year for Blaney, who is on pace to record his worst average finish since joining Team Penske. Even still, the defending champion is in the poll position to defend his title, even with two very noticeable blips in his results over his past five races, with a combined two laps at Darlington and Watkins Glen – both races he was expected to contend in. But he was top six in each of those other three races which is what’s keeping him in contention.
He remains a title favorite, and the oddsmakers’ co-favorite in this race, on a track he’s won at three times before. He can gain a real edge on the field with a win this weekend leading into the Round of 8, with tracks ahead of him that line up quite well to his advantage. We could be seeing the start of a repeat.
NASCAR 2024 YellaWood 500 Race Odds: Brad Keselowski +950
Another of the co-favorites, Keselowski may not be in the postseason hunt, but he’s performed well on this track before, with one win and four top-fives at Talladega since the start of the 2021 season. He’ll be extra motivated to play spoiler this weekend.

NASCAR Odds: Joey Logano +950
We may as well take a look at the third co-favorite this weekend, who may be one to avoid. Logano hasn’t had a top 10 finish since opening the playoffs with a win at Atlanta, but his point total remains robust which has him still in the playoff hunt.
This type of track is where he excels, but he hasn’t had much recent success at Talladega. After winning here three times from 2015-2018, he has only one top 10 finish here across his last 10 starts. Maybe he can re-find some of the magic he once had here, but that’s probably not worth the gamble at a co-favorite’s price tag.

NASCAR Odds: Denny Hamlin +1400
At first glance, this may seem like the kind of track to avoid Hamlin on, but he’s actually had a ton of success in the fall race at Talladega. Since the 2016 race, he’s finished seventh or better each time on this track where he has two wins to his name.
Considering he didn’t come away from a track more suited to his skillset in Kansas with a favorable result, and generally how the last few months have gone for the No. 11 team, this may be one to sit out on for Hamlin backers, though their may be greener days ahead.

NASCAR Odds: William Byron +1400
Byron has three wins on the season but they happened so long ago it almost feels like they didn’t happen. But he may be getting hot at the right time, coming off his second runner-up finish across his last seven races. He was the runner-up in the fall race at Talladega last year, and a win here could help catapult him into a very favorable situation entering the Round of 8.
