It’s time for the latest edition of the 2024 PGA Tour Championship PGA Tourney, and that means it’s time for some PGA Tour free picks. The FedEx Cup Playoffs continue this week with the PGA Tour Championship at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta, Georgia. There is $25 million in bonus money on the line for the winner this week as the FedEx Cup champion will be decided this weekend at the Tour Championship. The 2024 FedEx Cup Playoffs come to a close, with the winner seeing a $7 million uptick from last year’s prize, and a $10 million increase from the original prize in the current format – $15 million in 2019.

This year is the 18th season of the playoffs. The players have gone through 38 events on the road to this week’s finale, with the field cut down to a final group of 30 golfers reaching East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta.
This Week on the PGA Tour
The Starting Strokes format was introduced in 2019 and will be in effect again this year. The staggered system is meant to provide an edge to the golfers seeded higher in the standings entering the week.
In the Starting Strokes format, No. 1 seed Scottie Scheffler will start the Tour Championship at 10 under, Xander Schauffele at 8 under, Hideki Matsuyama at 7 under, Keegan Bradley at 6 under, and Ludvig Aberg at 5 under, followed by clusters of five golfers at 4 under, 3 under, 2 under, 1 under, and even par, respectively.
With his second win at the BMW Championship, Bradley joined Jack Nicklaus and Davis Love III as U.S. Ryder Cup captains to win after being appointed. The win also throws his name into the ring for a Presidents Cup pick this year.
Bradley had to sweat out his spot in that tournament the week before in Memphis, eventually making it in as the last man through, and his win at the BMW bumped him up 46 spots to fourth in the standings. That puts him through to the Tour Championship and four strokes behind leader Scheffler in the staggered strokes format, just a week after beating Scheffler by 13 strokes at Castle Pines.
The first 17 seasons of the playoff have yielded 14 different winners. Only Rory McIlroy in 2016, 2019, and 2022, and Tiger Woods in 2007 and 2009 have won the big prize more than once.

Scheffler has won 12 career PGA Tour events – and all have come since February of 2022. He’s been at the front of the class in the FedEx Cup standings all season long and this would be such a fitting end to a memorable season that includes two major tournament victories and an Olympic gold medal.

It’s been a memorable season for Schauffele as well, shaking the best player in the world without a major victory label with wins at both the PGA and the Open. As the second-ranked player in the FedEx Cup standings he’ll start closest to Scheffler at just two strokes behind.

No golfer’s history at the Tour Championship can compare to Rory’s. In nine visits to East Lake, he’s finished inside the top seven exactly seven times. He’s already won the Fed Ex Cup Championship three times. This week he’s starting at -4 so he has some work to do to catch the players in front of him, but we know he’s up for the challenge if he can find that top gear.

What a run it would be for the Ryder Cup captain to go from the brink of elimination to outright winning the BMW Championship and then the FedEx Cup. He beat Scottie Scheffler by 13 strokes this past weekend, so the four he starts behind this week won’t be that daunting for him.
