The Open Championship goes down this week at Royal Troon in the season’s fourth and final major championship. The best golfers in the world across all tours will be on site to decide the 152nd playing of the Open Championship.
One of Scotland’s native sons comes to this major off a victory, as Robert MacIntyre won the Scottish Open last weekend in dramatic fashion, making a birdie on the final hole to claim the crown. Second only to Rory McIlroy a year ago, MacIntyre completed the victory this year with a 22-foot birdie putt on the 18th green.
This Week on the PGA Tour
The Claret Jug will be handed out this week, and the par-71 layout playing to just short of 7,400 yards plays very tough, with many bunkers to worry about both off the tee and around the green. And the wind will surely play a major factor. If it’s at their back, scores could be low, but if it’s blowing into the players’ faces, that could make for some long rounds.
Royal Troon last hosted the Open in 2016, with Henrik Stenson outlasting Phil Mickelson that time around with scores of 20-under and 17-under, when the next closest play, JB Holmes, finished third with a score of 6-under.
Back in that 2016 event at Troon, Rory McIlory finished T5 after entering Sunday’s round at even-par. The 2014 Open Championship winner has finished in the top-six six times in his last eight Open championships. The 35-year-old Irishman second on the betting board this week.

Scheffler’s T41 at the U.S. Open was a disappointment – there’s just no way around that. But he followed that up with a win at the Travelers Championship one week later to help us forget about that poor performance.
Scheffler has wins in six of his last 10 tournaments, which is the kind of run we last saw from only Tiger Woods. He’s actually the first golfer since Arnold Palmer in 1962 to win six PGA Tour events before July.
A win would make Scheffler the first player since Rory McIlroy in 2014 to win two major titles in the same year. Given the form he’s in and the level-headedness we know he can keep in what should be tough conditions at Royal Troon, Scheffler has to be in consideration for all bettors at the betting window.
