S&P 500 back at record high on broad rally for Wall Street

Events to look out for today include the publication of the Federal Reserve’s minutes from its September meeting, Hurricane Milton to make landfall, speeches from Fed officials:

Fed minutes: Minutes from the Federal Open Market Committee’s September meeting are due to be published today, and will be of keen interest to Fed-watchers as the debate around the central bank’s next interest rate decision — namely whether it will cut rates again this year, and if so, by how much — grows.

Hurricane Milton: Preparations and evacuations continue ahead of the arrival of the storm, which is expected to make landfall along the west-central coast of Florida late tonight or early on Thursday. The National Hurricane Center warned it had “the potential to be one of the most destructive hurricanes on record for west-central Florida”.

Fedspeak: Several US central bank officials are scheduled to speak today. The presidents of the Atlanta, Dallas, Boston and San Francisco Federal Reserve branches are all slated to deliver remarks at separate events.
